Data Analysis in Excel
We focus on Data Analysis in Excel in this topic with some hints and tips for good practice. These hints and tips can be seen below:
Sorting – always keep the lists of data sequential, only 1 row of headings, no blank rows or columns, no merge cells in the headings
Filtering – Use the drop down arrow where possible. Choose from tick options when repeated text fields and use number filters for numeric values. If the question contains an AND together with OR you’ll need to use Advanced Filtering
Data Sub totals in Excel – always sort the list first then Data Sub total. Examples include counting and summing records.
Pivot Tables – always keep the same format as you would when sorting. Insert a pivot table to a new sheet. Use Options to choose classic pivot table layout.
